Cyril - Necklace in crystal, silver or gold
These glass jewelery are about 60 years old, they were made in 1960 at Orrefors Glasbruk. They were found when the family vacated Gunnar Cyrén's workshop in the spring of 2018. Each cube is unique, individually made and the glass squares vary in size between 32 and 27mm. The thickness is about 15mm. The size and location of the air enclosure also varies. The cubes have then been fitted with wire in silver and gold for the chain. Please note, chain not included.
"Already in 1960 I worked with stamps in the glass. We let glass float out over an iron plate and then I pressed the stamp into the soft glass. While it was still warm and soft, we put a new layer of glass all over it. The glass halves melted together and the pattern came to consist of enclosed air. We called it cyril technic"
"In the beginning we made small cubes or plates with, among other things, zodiac signs. In 1961 I made whole table tops and once a large roundel, like a sun wheel, over a meter in diameter and full of stamped patterns like this. A sense of frozen water. It was a simple technique. But there was a feel of Orrefors culture in it. When I made the medals for the 1995 World Championships in Athletics in Gothenburg, I put a piece of glass in the middle of the medal with a small drop of air in it. Once again I used the same technique"
