Helena Champagne glass

In 1976, Gunnar Cyrén was back at Orrefors Glasbruk as a freelancer, after working for Dansk Designs in the USA for six years. The first tableware, Helena, which he then designed, became a success and eventually a classic. The collection contained at most over 30 parts, from glasses, bowls, oil lamps, ice buckets to jugs and carafes. The stemware was manufactured for about 40 years at Sandviks Glasbruk AB, until the factory was closed down. Today, only the champagne glass is for sale.

In 1998, Helena Dahlbäck Lutteman, chief curator at the National Museum in Stockholm, wrote as follows: “The champagne glass in the stemware Helena from 1976 is absolutely superb with its optically blown trumpet-shaped cup. The lightness and ease are unsurpassed in that glass. The whole collection has qualities, but the champagne glass must be seen as a hit”
