Nobel Stemware

This is how Åke Livstedt described the work with the design of the tableware for the Nobel dinner in 1991: “Gunnar Cyrén presented his first test glass with a fully gilded stem. We were all in our strict puritanism a little surprised. But with enthusiasm, Gunnar fired on above all Karin Björqvist. And who does not dream of abundance. When Gunnar Cyrén presented his gilded stem, we felt its massive weight. Lightness and color were needed and so the idea of a skirt white wine glass with the conventional Swedish green leg was born. In homage to Simon Gate. Logically, the avec glass got its blue leg. The water glass is actually the tableware's most elaborate object. The champagne glass or all-glass, as I call it, was an idea completely surprising from Gunnar's side, which with its round ball became the ice cream table's most pregnant expression. ”

Gunnar Cyrén: "For my part, I think the best thing about the Nobel tableware is that it is not a boil over any 18th century romance. It is actually a glass from the second half of the 20th century and it is visible and I think it is a good thing. The green legs of the white wine glass were deliberately made as a romantic touch with features from the 1920s. I actually like a certain anonymity when it comes to everyday goods. I do not like to sit at a dining table and hear comments around: - This fork is fine! What a handsome porcelain! But when it came to the Nobel party, I thought it was a success when the glass, flatware and porcelain was commented on, just like music, fanfares, dances, processions and flowers "
